Walleye

Buck Lake and our remote outpost lakes consistently produce trophy-class Walleye. Our catch and release program protects fish over 22 inches, ensuring the population remains strong season after season. Our outpost lakes — Buffalo Island Lake and White Owl Lake — are particularly renowned for exceptional Walleye fishing in complete wilderness solitude. We call you the week before your arrival with the latest hot lure and colour report so you hit the water ready to fish.

Northern Pike

Buck Lake is Northern Pike country. These aggressive predators lurk in the weedy bays and river mouths of our 7,400-acre wilderness lake — and they fight like nothing else in fresh water. Fish over 34 inches are protected under our catch and release policy, keeping the trophy fishery healthy for generations to come. Whether you are casting large spoons along the shoreline or trolling the deeper channels, Northern Pike action on Buck Lake is consistently outstanding.

Jumbo Perch

Buck Lake is home to some of the finest jumbo Perch fishing in Northern Ontario. These scrappy, hard-fighting fish are a favourite among guests of all ages and skill levels — and they make outstanding table fare. Schools of jumbo Perch are found throughout the lake, making for fast-action fishing whenever the Walleye and Pike take a rest. Look for them over gravel and weed edges in eight to fifteen feet of water, where a small jig tipped with a minnow will keep rods bending all afternoon. Perch are the fish that turn a first-time angler into a lifelong one — easy to find, willing to bite, and a genuine surprise when a true jumbo comes over the gunwale. They are also the reason our shore lunch on Loon Island has earned its reputation: few things beat fresh Perch fillets in the pan an hour after they leave the water. Because Perch school tightly, finding one usually means finding fifty, and a drifting boat can stay on a single school for an hour or more. Light tackle makes all the difference — four to six pound line and a sensitive rod turn every bite into something worth feeling. And when the wind comes up and the big-water spots get uncomfortable, the sheltered bays where Perch hold will still be fishing well.
